4.1 And 4.2 Flashcards
What are sedimentary rocks?
Sedimentary rocks are formed by eroded settlements and deposited by rivers, seas.
Characteristics - crumbly,some resistant.
What are igneous rocks?
Igneous rocks are formed by lavas and magmas (Was molten, but then cooled and crystallised)
Characteristics - oldest rock to be formed by that, resistant to erosion.
What are metamorphic rocks?
Rocks that were heated and compressed during igneous activity (makes the rock harden)
Characteristics - very resistant.
processes involved in shaping the U.K.’s Upland landscape
Tectonic processes
Geology
Glaciation
How did tectonic process involve shaping the uk landscape?
- convection current’s uplifted rocks from below the sea.
- place in the UK shifted away from the tropics
How did Geology involve shaping the uk landscape?
Tropical fish and coral died – skeletons got crushed compacting into rocks
How did Glaciation involve shaping the uk landscape?
Melted glaciers leave waterfalls.
What is agriculture?
To do with farming. Its the work of growing farm crops or rearing animals
What is forestry?
Its when you cut down trees and re plant them after harvesting.
What is settlement?
This is where people live (city, town, houses ect.)
What are v shaped valleys formed?
Water gets into cracks and will freeze overnight and will expand and over many year and will break and form v shapes
Tectonic plates
Two continental plated collide and both go upwards forming mountains/volcanoes
