4.2 Physical And Human Processes Flashcards
Compare weathering in upland and lowland
In upland there is freeze thaw whereas in lowland there is biological weathering
Compare rock movement processes in upland and lowland
In upland there is rockfalls whereas in lowland there is soil creep
Compare misfit rivers and dry valleys
Misfit rivers are when a glacier has eroded land and a river begins to flow in the valley
Dry rivers are when the land was frozen there was rivers in the surface then the ground melted becoming permeable so the river was now underground
Explain how glaciers have influenced uplands and lowlands
Glaciers covered the upland changing the landscape dramatically whereas the water from melted glaciers has deposited fertile soil in the lowlands
How have humans effected the uplands
Afforestation then cut the trees down to sell for money
Sheep farming prevents trees from growing
How have humans effected the lowlands
Trees are cut down (less than 12 per cent of original amount remain)
Made lots of irrigation channels for water to flow
Which as been effected more uplands or lowlands
Uplands because more trees have been cut down and has changed the landscape dramatically by all the trees being cut down and building brick walls to separate land
