4.2 Joint and Movement Type Flashcards
Types of movement of synovial joints
Flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, pronation, supination, elevation, depression, rotation, circumduction, dorsi flexion, plantar flexion, eversion and inversion
Frontal Plane
Cuts the body front from back
Sagittal Plane
Cuts the body left from right
Transverse Plane: Cuts the body top to bottom
Cuts the body top to bottom
Anteroposterior Axis
Going from front to back
Transverse Axis
Going from left to right
Vertical Axis
Going from top to bottom
Flexion
Closing of the joint angle around the transverse axis at the joint
Extension
Opening of a joint angle around the transverse axis at the joint
Abduction
Opening of the joint angle around the anteroposterior axis at the joint
Adduction
Closing of the joint angle around the anteroposterior axis at the joint
Medial (inwards) Rotation
The anterior surface of the moving bone moves towards the medial (inside) aspect of the body
Lateral (outwards) Rotation
The anterior surface of the moving bone moves towards the lateral (outside) aspect of the body
Pronation
Medial rotation of the radioulnar joint (not wrist joint) or foot
Supination
Lateral rotation of the radioulnar joint (not wrist joint)
