What is the overall policy in regards to Missing Persons and Runaways?
A
It is the policy of the department to conduct thorough missing persons investigations to ascertain the possibility of a criminal act, to quickly initiate searches to reduce the possibility of harm to missing persons and return missing, runaway, abandoned, or abducted children to their families as soon as possible or to the appropriate facility, if they are victims of crimes in the home.

In regards to Missing Persons and Runaways, what will a patrol supervisor do?
A
Approvers (Patrol Supervisor or Records Supervisor) will:
- Ensure the ICR is completed in P1 with the NIC number included for all NCIC entries.
- If the missing person has not been located and any of the criteria under Communications procedures #4a-f (under the age of 12, medical condition of missing person, possible victim of foul play, suicidal, life-threatening, and large sum of money) are met, ensure the Missing Persons Detail is notified during dayshift hours. After hours, the on-call Missing Persons detectives will be notified.
