What are economic measures can be used to measure deprivation?
- Income, poverty, employment
- census data, neighbourhood statistics, historical and current data.
What are social measures can be used to measure deprivation?
- Reduction in inequality, deprivation, demographic changes
- IMD - index of multiple deprivation
- Interviews, newspaper, blogs, social media
What are environmental measures can be used to measure deprivation?
- Green open space, air quality, pollution, reduced derelict, reduced derelict buildings and land.
- Photos, environmental surveys, pollution indicators.
Evaluate economic measures to measure deprivation
Pros:
- Current data can be relevant
- Neighbourhood statistics can be very specific to an area
Cons:
- Census data may be out of date and therefore not representative
- Historical data also out of data.
Evaluate social measures to measure deprivation
Pros:
- Measures deprivation in an area
- Reliable measures for comparison
Cons:
- May not give accurate data for an area, a very wealthy area doesn’t show its pockets of deprivation.
Evaluate environmental measures to measure deprivation
Pros:
- Photography comparison with historical photos providing clear imagery for comparing.
Cons:
- Lack of historical photos will limit comparisons
What is private investment?
Investment from private stakeholders. Example includes Westfield.
What is public sector?
Regeneration that is paid for by the government. Example includes regeneration in Olympic Park.
What is public-private partnership?
Investment from both the government and private shareholders. An example is London Docklands.
