When the 1535 Draft actually came into force in 1563, what was completely ignored?
When the 1535 draft came into force in 1536, the scheme of public works was completely ignored.
What were people expected to do in the 1536 Act?
People were expected to make voluntary contributions towards the poor, but of course not everyone would.
What were the children of the poor to do?
Children of the poor were to learn a craft and then be put to work.
Describe the 1536 Act.
There were some positive features, however there was no consideration for the needs of the able-bodied poor.
What did the government still believe?
The government still believed that there was sufficient work for everyone, and so were still not solving the problem.
Suggest a reason as to why Henry VIII might have ignored the scheme of public works that was proposed in the 1535 Draft.
He may have ignored the scheme of public works as he didn’t want to annoy the wealthy by imposing taxes on them as he needed them on his side if he was to dissolve the monasteries in the same year.
