What did humanists believe?
A
Humanists believed that man could improve himself through study and education, therefore poverty was not inevitable. Through education, anyone could learn a craft or a trade, so once again there was no justification for unemployment.

It is evident that there was a severe repressive attitude towards the able-bodied poor which was reflected in the legislation of the period and it took a long time for the government to show any consideration for these people.
