What did Commonwealth thinkers believe?
A
They believed that society was like an organism - dependent on many interacting parts, just like the human body. For example, the King was the head and the heart, the JPs the eyes, they craftsmen the hands and farmers the feet. In any such organism no part should be idle, hence the severe attitude towards able-bodied vagrants.
