what is performance-related pay

A
performance-related pay is the monetary compensation provided to the employees relative to how their performance is assessed according to the set stranded. There are a number of ways in which business may provide performance-related pay to employees such as :
pay increase 
bonus 
commission 
share plan 
profit sharing 
and gran sharing 

The advantages of performance-related pay are focused on the immediate benefits it gives in raising productivity and encouraging employees to work faster for a monetary reward. However, longer-term performance-related pay may give the business diminishing returns as employees focus on working faster but not to a high standard. Further, a business may not be able to keep up with performance-related pay indefinitely as it will lead to increased wage costs as employees become better at the tasks.

what is career advancement?

A

career advancement occurs when a person takes on a job that carries greater responsibilities or increased opportunities to provide leadership where the positions bring awards such as increased salary, fringe benefits and increased responsibilities.

in the short-term, it usually brings a pay rise and greater job security, which satisfy the low level of needs on Maslow’s hierarchy. wherein the long-term it provides the means of higher levels of needs in Maslow’s hierarchy

what is an investment in training?

A

investment in training is the direction of finances, or resources such as time, into the teaching of skills to employees. providing employees with additional skills can increase job satisfaction and promote higher levels of both short and long term motivation

advantages are how it may improve retention as staff loyalty and motivation improve where a disadvantage is a business may be unable to afford the costs of training.

what is support?

A

support is the assistance or services (such as counselling and mentoring) providing by the business to help employees cope with difficulties that may impede their work performance.

a supportive place can affect the employee in the long term as it encourages a sense of loyalty and willingness to remain in the work environment.

an advantage is that many forms of support such as encouragement can be provided at no cost where a disadvantage is how it may be difficult to find reasons to support and encourage some employees

what is a sanction?

A

a sanction is a form of penalty or discipline imposed on an employee for poor performance

fear of sanctions can be a motivating factor for some employees. however, it will generally only influence the basic needs of employees

advantages include:
may quickly stop inappropriate behaviour of some employees

the disadvantage is excessive emphasises on sanctions can reduce employees sense of belonging. leading to a negative impact on motivation
