- Poor sanitation – open sewers & no clean water
- Epidemics of cholera & typhoid
- Young at risk from dehydration due to diarrhoea
- High air pollution levels – kerosene used for cooking, * high emissions from the city
- Poor diets- rice & vegetables, little fresh protein
- few homes have toilets ut are often run for profit by local businesses.
- Toilets often flush int streets or Ciliwung river so human waste often mixes with drinking water.
- Hot and humid conditions mean that malaria is a threat → kerosene used in homes for cooking and lighting is a major source of pollution
