A
A condition in which a person experiences a clash in opposing wishes or needs. The belief that opposing views, goals or beliefs are incompatible can result in conflict

Explain mirror-image perceptions as a type of conflict.
A
Both parties form distorted perceptions about the other, ‘us’ vs. ‘them’
Both perceptions are similar in construction

Name and explain the three types of resolving conflict.
A
- Imposed solutions: the solution is controlled, leads to one side winning and the conflict is unresolved leaving the other party dissatisfied
- Distributive solutions: a compromise/mutual decision where both parties come to a middle decision
- Integrative solutions: win-win situation where both sides benefit, difficult to do, need to understand each party, focus on motives rather than explicit demands

Explain counselling as a technique for resolving conflict.
A
- Will help patient solve their problems without providing solutions, helps patient with ability of listening and expressing themselves, one or both parties can go

A
- Have shared interest and opposed interests. Talk to negotiate, success displays integrative solutions

- Bring in 3rd party to negotiate conflict and help parties focus on the issues, reach voluntary solutions, form better relationships by forming common ground, results in distributive or integrative solutions
