- Stage 1: early adolescence, formed same sex cliques of 4-10 members, isolated from other cliques tight structure with authority figure/leader, conformity or dress, interests and attitudes
- Stage 2: Unisex cliques interact, eligible for membership if you already belonged to the clique, interaction between young girls and boys allows social interaction and banter between sexes
- Stage 3: High ranking clique members form heterosexual cliques, group members date
- Stage 4: fully developed crowd, number of couples in close association with one another
- Stage 5: couples begin to go separate ways
