3.7 - Adaptations Flashcards
What has been developed?
Drought resistant crops which are unaffected by disease and high temperatures
How does China use drought resistant crops?
Uses them and plant them earlier/later than normal to match CC patterns and withstand higher temperatures
Other farming adaptations?
Indoor farming to reduce pollution from tractors
What can be managed to adapt and who is an example?
Water conservation and management
Singapore
What local adaptation can be made?
Land-use planning e.g. around rivers
How does Netherlands show local adaptations?
Jolt buildings on hollow pontoons which move up and down with the tide so don’t get submerged
What does Netherlands do if river levels are too high?
Release water into flood plains which have been bought from farmers who had to be relocated
Why is the Netherlands able to adapt?
Strong governance and have wealth to do so (invest $1bn p/y in flood management)
