Polk did not want to give Taylor the job because he was afraid Taylor would get credibillity in an election against him so he gave it to Scott instead who had no chance at the Presidency. Scott landed at Vera Cruz with 10 casualties ,and pushed to the high ground in Puebla, and had to stop because the volunteer’s time is up, attacked Mexico city and occupied it while the Mexican government collapsed
