HIV or inmmunocompromised

pigeon droppings (always an encapsulated yeast, not dimorphic)

Clinical presentation of cryptococcus?
A
initial ASYMPTOMATIC pulmonary infection that can progress to miningitis (fatal)

How is crypto diagnosed?
A
Halos on india ink stain of CSF

Treatment of cyrpto?
A
amphotericin B and flucytosine

What is steroid-associated meningitis?
A
exserohilum rostratum contaminated steroids given out. Diagnose by CSF analysis and culture.

Treatment for steroid-assoc meningitis?
A
IV voriconazole for 3 months
