Gramsci believes that editors are not consciously presenting dominant ideology through the media, they have created hegemony
Hegemony - the dominant ideology becomes viewed as common sense and other views are seen as ridiculous

-values and assumptions held by editors and journalists on what is newsworthy
-they don’t want to upset their owners but also need to make profit
-the news values means they don’t always put the dominant ideology and will consciously put controversial and critical views to seem unbiased
