-one device being able to do multiple things e.g a phone being able to listen to music, pay for stuff and access the internet

-audience being able to engage in something like a tv show e.g hashtag on twitter

-the ability to stream whenever and whatever you want
-additionally it means being able to influence media through things like YouTube posts

-the new media is free and can be accessed by anyone with internet access
-raises issue on how money is made

Define cultural pessimists
-believe we are always under surveillance e.g advertisement through cookies
-new media exposes people to crimes such as identity theft
-new media has the same issues as old media but brings along new ones
