3.2.2 Biomechanical Movement Flashcards
What quantity is mass
Scalar quantity
What is the equarion used to calculate momentum
Mass X velocity
Explain how a lift force is imparted to a discus during flight and explain its effects on the flightpath of the discuss
Discus is an aerofil shape
Takes an appropiate angle of attack to the direction of motion
Air has to travek further over the top of tue discus, faster over the top
Low pressure area of top of the discus, high to low pressure creating lift force
Explain the methods used to reduce the forces acting on a cyclist whilst racing
Friction beteween wheels and track against cyclist
Air resistance acting agaist cyclist moving through air, opposite direction
Reduce friction by using thin/high pressured tyres , streamlining
Reducd forrward cross sectional area
Drscribe a cyclsit use of the Bernoulli effect to incresse his speed
Body formsan aerofoil shape, creating angle of attack
Air travels faster and further under cyclist
Creates a low pressure, Benroulli force formed from high to low pressure- downwards force
Describe how a lift force can be generated by a discuss in flight
Air molecules striking the under surfacs of the discuss are accelerated, causes pressure difference between upper and lower surface of the discus, creates a pressure gradient forming Bernoulli effect
Explain how a high angle of attack will affect the distance travelled by the discuss
Discus does not travel as far
High angle of attack = discuss produces less lift/ more drag
Air begins to flow less smoothly over the top, air flow more seperated
Name 3 factors that affect the distance shot put travels
Height,speed and Angle of release
Define horizontal displacement
Horizontal displacement is the shortest distance from starting point to finishing point . Factors affecting: angle of release, speed of release and height of release.
Optimum angle of relase Is dependent on the release height of an object and landing height
RH> LH<45
Define flight paths
Weight and air resistance affect the flight paths of projectiles
Projectiles with large weight force tend to have small air resistance force and follow a true paraboliv flight path
Parabolic flight path- flight path of a projectile in the abscencd of air resistnce
Define Benroullis principle of lift
Lift force and downforce created when air flows over an aerofoil objedt. Increase in velocity of air, decrease in pressure. Lift force is force that acts as perpendicular to the direction of travel.
Apply bernoulis principle
Streamline = air travelling over the top has shorter distsnce to travel than the air underneath . Air above travelling at a slower velocity , creates a higher pressure. Downward lift force
Explain how various forces act to affect the badminton shuttle during its flight
Badminton shuttle follows a non parabolic flight path
Shape of shuttle means air resistance is the larger force
Air resistance acts on the horizontal components
Gravity acts on vertical components
Explain the Bernoullis principle in relation to a downward lift force for a racing car
Bernoulli principle is where air molecules exert less pressure the faster they travel and more pressure when they travel slower
Racing car, spoiler is angled so the lift force can act in downward direction to push the car into the track
Higher pressure above the car creates a downfall lift force and allows the tyres of the car to maintain a firm grip on the track
