  • Gage attempted a secret mission on 18th April 1775 to Concord to sieve/destroy a military store
  • British troops were met by 75 volunteers at Lexington + 1st shots of the war rang out
  • total British casualties were 273, 73 killed
  • Boston then besieged + surrounded by 20,000 colonial militia

  • reinforcements arrived - British generals Howe, Clinton + Burgoyne - May 1775 with a few thousand troops
  • > 1,000 British casualties, 1/8 of British officers killed in entire conflict died here so couldn’t be a ‘victory’
