Q
What are some causes of globalisation?
A
Some causes of globalisation are:
- Improved mobility of capital: it has become a lot easier to move money from let’s say the UK to Ghana than it was a while back.
- Containerisation: it is easy to transport goods because of the rapid adoption of the steal container to transport goods reducing the costs of transport which in turn makes trade cheaper and more efficient.
- Increased mobility of labour: people are more willing to move between countries in search of work.
- Improved technology: means that it is much easier to communicate and share information around the world.
- Growth of trading blocs: have reduced national barriers. e.g. the European Union and NAFTA.

Q
What are some consequences of globalisation?
A
The consequences of globalisation are:
- availability of goods: you can have strawberries in winter. This is because of globalisation.
- TNC’s always search for the cheapest place to produce their goods.
- Tourism: people are able to experience different cultures.
- Consumerism: There is now an expectation that things should be available quickly and cheaply.
- The loss of wilderness areas: very few areas have been untouched.
- Job security: jobs have become less secure and more temporary.
