3 - Tissue types and structures II Flashcards
What is glandular epithelium?
composed of cells that produce and secrete substances into ducts or body fluids
merocrine secretion
release of a substance from a gland via exocytosis
apocrine secretion
A mode of secretion in which the glandular cell sheds portions of its cytoplasm
holocrine secretion
release of a substance caused by the rupture of a gland cell, which becomes part of the secretion
simple multicellular glands
Gland with single duct, don’t branch
compound multicellular glands
Having ducts which branch
what is the role of connective tissue?
supports, protects, and binds together other tissues of the body
what are the 5 types of connective?
loose, dense, cartilage, bone, blood
3 types of protein fibres
collagen, elastic, reticular
Loose connective tissue, areolar
gel-like matrix with all three fiber types; cells: fibroblasts, macrophages, mast cells, and some white blood cells
loose connective tissue, adipose
provides reserve food fuel; insulates against heat loss; supports and protects organs
loose connective tissue, reticular
network of reticular fibers in a typical loose ground substance; reticular cells lie on the network
dense regular connective tissue
Closely packed collagen fibers running parallel to each other
Dense Irregular CT
thick and irregular collagen fibres
elastic connective tissue
combines strength with elasticity and recoils easily
