What are harems?

What are bachelor bands?
Male groups
What does an arched neck indicate?
hesitant/mildly alarmed
What does head up beyond normal position indicate?
fear/alarm or extreme agitation
What does head to the side (ears pinned back) position indicate?
very angry
What is a chifney bit?
Anti-rearing bit
- much greater control than a snaffle
- can cause damage if used incorrectly
- should not be used to lunge from
From what age do horses need a passport?
From 6 months of age or (31st of December)
What colour must passports be written in?
Black ink
How are white markings written on a passport?
Marked with a red outline and hatched with diagonal red lines
- few white hairs = single short lines in red
How are flesh marks written on a passport?
Outlines and shaded completely in red
What are whorls?
Formed by changes in direction of hair growth
- indicated by a black X
What is a prophets thumb mark?
Natural dimple in muscle, usually occurring on the neck
- indicated using a black triangle
What are ermine marks?
Black spots on white markings
- usually around the coronet band
- in black ink
What are chestnuts?
Found on medial aspect of all four limbs
- above knee in forelimbs
- below hock in hindlimbs
Most be noted in plain coloured horses with no other markings and less then 4 whorls
