What are the bronchi?
The tubes leading from the trachea to the lungs.
What are the bronchioles?
They are the tubes that are divided from the bronchi that lead to alveoli.
What are alveoli?
They are microscopic air sacks, it is here that gas exchange with blood.
What do the walls of the trachea and the bronchi contain?
Rings of cartilage.
What are the pleural membranes?
Thin, moist membranes separate the lungs from the inside of the thorax.
How does the body keep the airways clean?
1) By secreting mucus
2) By using cilia
What is ventilation?
Moving air in and out of lungs.
How does carbon monoxide affect the blood’s ability to carry oxygen?
It bonds to the hemoglobin much better than oxygen can, thus reducing the amount of oxygen the blood can carry.
