3. Aeronautical - Aircraft Componets Flashcards
What solves the problem of dynamic pressures on jet engines?
They use reverse thruster vanes, guiding the thrust forward to aid with braking after landing. It undergoes immense amounts as it changes the momentum and direction of the fluids.
How does static pressure create material fatigue.
Aircrafts are pressurised to fly at elevated heights, which creates a difference in static pressure between the inside and outside. An increase and decrease in static pressure stresses the cabin, which creates material fatigue.
What does a pitot tube do?
It’s mounted under the nose or wing to convey speed. Air is forced into the tube and the pressure is registered, orifices around the tube measure static pressure. The differences in pressure are measured by a stress gauge.
How does an airspeed indicator work?
AKA Altimeter - measures the altitude. Has a small expandable vessel of air (aneroid) surrounded by static pressure. As the aircraft ascends the static pressure falls, allowing the aneroid to expand. It’s then measured.
