mastery of skill, physical and mental prep, social reinforcement, effective leadership, environmental comfort
what is the diff between self efficacy and confidence
confidence means having a strong belief whether positive or negative, self efficacy is having a strong positive belief
what is anxiety
a state of nervousness and worry, a negative response to a threatening sports scenario
what are sources of anxiety
losing, spectators, injury, lack of self confidence
what are the 4 types of anxiety
somatic, cognitive, competitive trait and competitive state
what is cognitive anxiety
mental symptoms eg worrying, irrational thoughts
what is somatic anxiety
physical symptoms eg sweating and increased heart rate
what is competitive trait anxiety
when the performer has a natural tendency to be anxious
what is competitive state anxiety
when the performer is only anxious in particular sporting situations, often high pressure and usually temporary
what is the inverted U theory
there is optimal arousal for an athlete, low arousal leads to boredom and high arousal leads to panic
what is the catastrophe theory
if high cognitive anxiety coincides with high somatic anxiety the athlete will go over the edge and extremely decline however they can rejoin the upward curve if they can reduce cognitive anxiety in. that moment

set SMART goals, positive self talk, visualisation, mindfulness, mental rehearsal, journaling
