a disagreement between an employer and its employees, often represented by a Trade Union, over some part of the terms and conditions of employment.

Steps
1. Collective Bargaining (Employees group up and negotiate as one to solve an issue)
2. Work-to-rule (Do the minimum amount of work as stated in a contract)
3. Strike Action (Employees stop working altogether. Often only done with union backing and after a vote.)
Industrial/ Employee Relation methods used by Employers
- Collective Bargaining (Negotiations with employees on a set deadline. Sometimes done by managers, other times negotiators are brought in)
- Changes of Contract (To legally change contracts of employees in order to meet the demands or end employment)
- Threat of Redundancies
(Employers may look into moving or automating certain divisions or an entire facility.) - Lock-Outs/ Closures (Employers don’t allow their workers to do their job, so they don’t get paid. Or, they simply close the location._
Concilation
parties involved in a dispute to use the services of an independent mediator. The mediator meets with the parties separately to resolve the dispute. Negotiation and compromise are encouraged and the final resolution is done in writing so that it is legally binding
