2.6 Structure of DNA and RNA Flashcards
What are nucleotides made from?
from nucleic acid to make DNA or RNA and are made from three parts
What are the three parts that nucleotides are made from?
Pentose sugar, phosphate group, base
The different purines?
Adenine, guanine
The different Pyrimidines?
Cytosine, Thymine, uracil
Difference between RNA and DNA?
RNA - pentose sugar is ribose, and the bases are adenine, guanine, cytosine and uracil. One strand
DNA - pentose sugar is deoxyribose and the bases are adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine. 2 stands
how are nucleotides connected?
by covalent bonding between pentose sugar and the phosphate of the next one.
What is the structure of DNA
It is a double helix which means antiparallel, run alongside each other but in opposite directions and are held together by hydrogen bonding.
Who discovered structure of DNA?
crick and watson
Which nitrogenous bases go with which for DNA ?
Adenine with Thymine, Guanine with Cytosine
Which nitrogenous bases go with which for RNA ?
Adenine with Uracil, Guanine with cytosine
