What is Organisational Design?
It is the systematic organisation of staff on the basis of individual roles.
Staff at higher levels of the hierarchy
(Eg company directors)have greater levels of authority and responsibility.
What does organisational design depend on?
Chain of command
Delegation
Size of the business
Span of control
What is chain of command?
A hierarchy that outlines who reports to whom, as well as the roles each person has within the organisation.
What is Delegation?
When people of authority give tasks to people with less authority.
This can also motivate staff.
What is span of control?
The number of people a supervisor is in charge of.
The more people a manager has to look after the harder it is.
What is size of the business?
The bigger the business is the more layers there is of organisational design.
