Define ‘Self efficacy’
A belief in the ability to master a specific sporting situation
What is Bandura’s theory?
> the suggestion that confidence can vary with the situation
sport specific confidence = self efficacy
when the performer. Experiences. Satisfaction and pride due to success, there is increased confidence

What are performance accomplishments?
> past experiences
past success or enjoyment improves confidence for future
What is vicarious experience?
> watching others complete the task successfully
athlete watches ‘model’ of similar standard and confidence increases
What is verbal persuasion?
> verbal reinforcement and encouragement
praise from significant others
incentive to perform successfully again
What is emotional arousal?
> keeping calm and maintaining control and strategy
optimum level of arousal - doesn’t experience anxiety/aggression

> build on successful experiences
