Define ‘confidence’
A belief in the ability to master a task
What is trait confidence?
A consistent level of confidence shown in most situations (innate). Trait sports confidence - ability to perform in a variety of sports.
What is state confidence?
Showing confidence in a specific situation (e.g. penalty). Temporary, influenced by experience and personality.
How does confidence benefit performance?
> arousing positive emotions
facilitating concentration
enabling focus on the important aspects of the task
What are the elements of Rogers’ humanist approach to self-concept?
> Self-image: (how a person views themselves)
Self-esteem: (feeling of self worth)
