What is Legislation?
• Legislation is the collective term for laws
• When we talk about legislation in business we are talking about UK laws
What is the Equality Act 2010?
This law makes it illegal to discriminate against someone because of their: religion, gender, race, age, sexual orientation or because of disabilities.

What is the national Minimum wage (MNW)
The legal minimum that can be paid to workers in the UK
What is the The National Living wage
The National Living Wage is higher than the National Minimum Wage - workers get it if they’re over 25.
What is the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974?
It requires all employers to take responsibility for health and safety. Firms need to carry out risk assessments. Health ams safety laws protect visitors to a business as well (consumers).
What are the benefits to a business of provididng a safe working environment?
• Avoids a fine – Health and Safety is a legal responsibility of business
• Avoids expensive compensation claims from employees who have had accidents at work
• Avoids negative publicity from having a poor health and safety record
• Reduces absenteeism at work through accidents
Waht is the Consumer rights Act 2015?
Goods must be: described accurately, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality - if it isn’t then the consumer can return it and get a full refund.
Must be delivered within 30 days - unless it was agreed otherwise
What is the Trade Descriptions Act?
Trade Descriptions Act carries criminal penalties and is enforced by Trading Standards Officers, making it an offence for a trader to apply a false trade description to any goods or services
• Traders could get an unlimited fine or 2 years in prison
