25- Eicosanoids Flashcards
What eiconsanoids are pro-inflamatory
omega 6
what eiconsaoids are anti-infalmatory
omega 3
What are the two major type of eicosanoids:
Leukotrienes and Protanoids
What are the derivatival pre-cursors to make eicosanoids?
Needs EPA , AA and DGLA
What does the synthesis pathway of a eicosanoids look like?
Need phospholipid membrane that then uses the AA, and if you have activation of COX gene then it makes the protanoids, (which is where meds like NSAIDS/ASPIRIN block at the COX genes to inhibit prostaglandin response)
What is the relation with Leukotrienes and aspiring etc?
Leukotriene production , also produces histamins and prostaglandins .. aka inflamatory response and pain
What does the leukotriene do?
1) Contract smooth muscles in lungs - allergic response causer
2) Stimulated vascular permeability
3) Act. Leukocytes
How do we name prostalandins
Name them by using the chemical structure… ex: ProstA- has a = ring in posit 11..
what type of prostaglandins are vassodepressors?
A B C
What type of signalling does prostacyclin involve?
Paracrine G-protein coupled R in platelet and endothelical cell cascades
What is the consequnece of activating prostacyclins
cAMP lvl increase .. causing vasodilation and inc. permeability
What is the definition of a growth factor?
Its any protein stimulating the division and differentiation of specific types of cells
where is FGF found in?
Bone
What are the 3 interferons
INF-alpha
INF-Beta
INF-gama
