24- Thymus gland Flashcards
How is the growth pattern of the thymus?
It grows as we age, then atrophie at puberty to reach max height.
But at elderly stage it degenerates
What are the parts of the thymus
Made up of follicles irregularly shaped, contained a medullar and cortical portion
What develops body T-Lymphocytes?
The thymus gland.. T- = immunity for infections
what are the 3classes of T-cells?
Cytotoxic T - recgonition then kill cell
Helper T-cells = produce B-cells and produce substance that stim T-cells
Regulatory T-cells = supressor T-cells
What hormone help differentiation of T-lymphocytes ?
Thymopoeitin and Thymulin
What is the function of Thymulin?
Apeptide need Zn2+ for activity
Effects on proinflamation
Analegesic effects mainly in brain
What is the function of Thymosin?
Small protein inc immune response
What does adipose tissue produce?
1) Resistin - linker for obesity and diabetes
2) Leptin -
3) Adiponectin - protection against obesity
4) Inflamatory factors
5) Plasminogen inhibitor
6) Adipsin
What does the lung secrete?
Surfactant - initating parturition
ACh - link of nicotine to lungs..
AngII - constrict blood vessels
What does the Kidneys secrte?
Renin - Hydrolyzes Ang II to Ang I
Somatostatin - inhibit release of Gh/TSH/Prolactin/Insulin…
What hormones does the skeleton produce?
FGF23 - promote P. excretion.. aka lowering P.
&
Osteocalcin - acts on B-pancreatic cells.. stim insulin
