23.8 Flashcards
It is difficult to generalise rehabilitation practices in the clinic to everyday life so it is better to use an ___ ___ model for cognitive rehabilitation.
Active participation e.g. in the patient’s home!
There are two categories of cognitive interventions: ___ modifications and ___ strategies.
Environmental modifications
Compensatory strategies
Environmental modifications?
Change or remove environmental factors e.g. reduce stimulation, use quiet environments, place items on right side of room if mild left neglect.
Compensatory strategies?
Training or teaching patients to use behaviours or processes that compensate for difficulties due to cognitive deficits e.g. mnemonics (internal strat.), or external strats. e.g. cues, diaries, smartphones.
Do brain training programs work?
There is a practice effect - you do get better at brain training tasks.
BUT there is NO transfer of these skills to real world contexts!
