Terminate:
To connect wires to a connector (like a punch down block or plug).
Untwist:
Separating the twisted pairs of wires in a cable end. Must be minimized!
Wiring Configuration (T568A/T568B):
The standard order in which wires are placed in a connector. Choose one and stick to it!
Punch Down Block:
A connector block with IDC slots where wires are terminated using a punch down tool.
Punch Down Tool: .
A tool that pushes wires into IDC slots on a punch down block, making the connection and cutting off excess wire
IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector):
A connector type where wires are connected by forcing them into sharp contacts that cut through the insulation.
Blade (Punch Down Tool):
The part of the punch down tool that seats the wire in the IDC and cuts off the excess.
Block Tool:
A tool that terminates multiple connectors in a block, simultaneously.
Cable Crimper:
A tool for attaching a plug (like RJ45) to a cable end, especially for patch cords.
Shielded IDC/Modular Plug:
Specialized connectors for shielded cables, maintaining the shield connection.
A keystone Jack
is a standardized, snap-in female connector used in wall plates or patch panels to easily connect network cables.
