2.3 Cards Flashcards
1
Q
What happens to electrons during ionic bonding?
A
Electron(s) is ripped from one atom to another.
2
Q
What happens to electrons during covalent bonding?
A
Electrons are shared between the atoms.
3
Q
Ionic and Covalent bond property differences.
A
Ionic bonds are soluble in water and conduct electricity in water. They also have high boiling points. Covalent bonds usually dont dissolve in water, they dont conduct electricity in water, and they usually have low boiling points.
4
Q
Difference between Polar and Non-Polar Covalents.
A
Non Polars share electrons equally between each other, while the shared electrons of a polar bond hang out more with one atom than the other.
