1.5 Cards Study Guide Flashcards
Dependent Variable
The variable that changes in response to a change to the Independent variable
Independent Variable
The variable that the experimenter changes within the experiment to find a desired outcome.
Control Group
The control group is the unbiased, unchanged group that an experiment has in order to compare the results of the actual experiment to.
Experimental Group
The experimental group is the part of the experiment that is changed in someway in comparison to the control group in order to test a variable.
A group of experimenters wanted to find out the effect of time after waking up had on the effects of caffeine. They had ten people wake up and have a cup of coffee ten minutes after they woke up, and they had ten people have a cup of coffee 90 minutes after they woke up. The hypothesis was that if one waits 90 minutes or longer to let the Adenosine filter out of ones bloodstream, they wouldn’t experience a crash later in the day.
