2.2.6 Cellulose Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the structure of cellulose
A
- made up of two B-glucose (one is inverted 180)
- due to the inversion of B-glucose many hydrogen bonds form between the long chains giving cellulose it’s strength
2
Q
Why is cellulose the main structural component of cell walls
A
Because of its strength which is a result of many hydrogen bonds found between the parallel chains of microfibrils
It can withstand turgor pressure
Also, the fiber structure determines the shape of the cell and supports it
3
Q
What is the enzymes that catalyzes cellulose?
A
cellulase
4
Q
Cellulose fibers are partially preamble: True or False
A
False
