Q

Describe the structure of cellulose

A
  • made up of two B-glucose (one is inverted 180)
  • due to the inversion of B-glucose many hydrogen bonds form between the long chains giving cellulose it’s strength

Q

Why is cellulose the main structural component of cell walls

A

Because of its strength which is a result of many hydrogen bonds found between the parallel chains of microfibrils
It can withstand turgor pressure
Also, the fiber structure determines the shape of the cell and supports it
