What is the Gibbs’ equation?
ΔG° = ΔH° - TΔS°
ΔG° = free energy change
ΔH° = enthalpy change with surroundings
T = temperature in K
ΔS° = entropy change of system
What does feasibility describe?
Whether a reaction is able to happen and is energetically feasible(spontaneous)
What value must ΔG° be in order for a reaction to be feasible?
Negative
What are the units for ΔG°?
KJmol-1
What are limitations of making predictions about feasibility based on ΔG° ?
Does not take into account of the kinetics/rate of reactions
What effect does temperature have on entropy?
Entropy increases as temperature increases as the particles have more kinetic energy, therefore have more disorder since they are faster-moving
