In alabama and it needed segregation, white officals had effective methods to stop black people from voting

- local groups invited the SNCC and King to selma
- ppl were protesting against voter rebistration tests
- 7th March protestors set out to March from Selma to Montgomery
- in both parts of congress people speak against the violence and in favour of voter registration
- johnson used an executive order to federalsie state national guard

They KKK burnt 61 crosses at the same time to show their anger and power
They burnt 37 black churches and beach up volenteers

17,000 tried to vote, only 1,600 succeeded
