Why were the US concerned by Castro’s Cuba?
- they wanted a US frendly goverment in control
- they were worried a communist country would be on their border-within missile range and a bad propoganda image.
- did not want a communist ally close to US territory.
What was the bay of pigs and why was this method chosen?
- kennedy wanted to get rid of Castro to make his image look good after being elected-he gave his support to a CIA plan before he was elelcted.
- cuban exiles would be trained and launch an invasion into Cuba-they did not send any US troops or air forces because the attack would look like a counter revolution-the US could claim they were not invloved.
- they did not expect the ppl to side with Castro
What were the effects of the bay of pigs for the US?
They looked hypocritical as they had accused the soiviots for building a empire in Europe, they were doing the same thing. (Supporting an armed uprising to gain US infulance in a another country.)
Propoganda for communism as the ppl of Cuba chose communism and did not help the ‘US’ invaders.
Led to a better soviot-Cuba relationship.
