2.1.7 - Organisation of cells Flashcards
define tissues
group of specialised cells carrying out a particular function in the body
define an organ
a structure made up of several different types of tissues grouped together to carry out a particular function in the body
what are the 4 main types of tissue types in the body?
- epithelial tissue
- connective tissue
- muscle tissue
- nervous tissue
what are epithelial tissues?
tissues that form the lining of surfaces inside and outside the body
give an example of an organ in a plant.
a leaf
- composed of vascular tissue, epithelial tissue and mesophyll tissue
define organ system
a group of organs working together to carry out particular functions in the body
what organs make up the digestive system?
- stomach
- pancreas
- small + large intestine
From the outside - inwards, list the tissues found in a leaf cell
- upper epidermis
- palisade mesophyll
- spongy mesophyll
- lower epidermis
