What is the ISO?
International Standards Organisation - A federation of national standards institution that device international standards to improve safety productivity and reliability
What is the RoHS?
Restriction of Hazardous Substances - A directive aimed at preventing hazardous substances from entering the production process in order to prevent damage to human health and the environment.
What is the battery directive?
In combination with the RoHS and WEEE deals specifically with the restriction of hazardous substances and safe disposal of batteries and accumulators. All batteries and accumulators must show the crossed out wheelie bin sign and instructions of how to dispose of batteries
What are polymer codes?
Codes that identify a polymer e.g polypropylene is PP. Used to separate materials during recycling
What is the WEEE directive?
Covers the end of life of electric of electronic equipment. All relevant products must carry the crossed through wheelie bin sticker
What is the EC energy label?
Coloured scale from A+++ (most efficient) to D( least effect).
What is eco-labelling?
A wide range of voluntary environmental certifications given to companies that are seen to meet specific environmental targets.
What are the packaging directives?
Aims to limit the production and promote the reculing and reuse of packaging materials. At least 60% (by weight) of the waste must be recovered and all packing must be marked with the specific materials used to assist in identification and classification.
What is the energy efficiency label and logo?
A certification mark issued by the energy saving trust as a recommendation for only the most energy efficient products within the specific categories. Products include washing machines and fridges.
What is the FSC?
Forest Stewardship Council - Manages the certification system to identify and label timer and timber based productions from sustainable sources.
What is the EU ENERGY STAR?
Agreement between the EU and US to standardise how it equipment was labelled to show the energy used. Products are asses of their power usage. Covers computers, displays and imagine equipment (printers)

What does BS EN mean?
It is a standard that is accepted by a European standardisation organisation
What does the presence of a CE mark mean?
A product confirms to all relevant European safety standards. its presence is mandatory for a product to be sold within the EU
What does ISO 9001 refer to?
Quality Management
