2019 Flashcards
*Aggarwal - “Efficacy of articaine vs lidocaine as supplementary intraligamentary injection following failed IANB”
78% success w/ Lidocaine, 66% success with articaine. No SSD between the two.
***Setzer - “Outcome of crown and root resection”
82% success for crown resection, 87% success for root resection.
**Messing - “Potential correlations b/w endo path and CVD using epidemiological and genetic approaches”
Significant association w/ CVD. Positive correlation between AP and KCNK3 polymorphism.
***Torabinejad - “A retrospective comparison of outcome in pts who received both NSRCT and single tooth implants”
Both txs 95% survival rate with 7.5 year fu. number of appts and cost significantly higher for single tooth implant.
***Watts - “Ibuprofen and acetaminophen vs intranasal ketorolac in an untreated endodontic pain model”
Ib/Ac combo and ketorolac had same efficacy. (31.5mg K and 1000mg Ac/600mg Ib)
***Paranjpe - “Contribution of RCT to the fracture resistance of dentin”
Decrease in strength of radicular dentin by RCT. RCT teeth had more collagen cross-linking and lower tubule occlusion.
***Capetillo - “Anesthetic efficacy of intranasal 3% tetracaine w/ 0.05% oxymetazoline (kovanaze) in maxillary teeth”
Kovanaze significantly less successful in pulpal anesthesia than lidocaine. 100% of subjects preferred traditional injections over kovanaze due to SEs.
Kuhl - “Guided endo vs conventional access”
10/24 traditional vs 22/24 guided. 2X longer w/ traditional. 50mm^3 vs 10mm^3 loss of tooth structure.
Mavridou - “Regenerative Endodontic procedures…”
Failed regendo may not have huge bacterial overload but still see inflammatory cells.
**Diogenes - “Expression of neurotrophic factors in human dentin and the regulation of trigeminal neurite outgrowth”
Neurotrophins in dentin matrix proteins could play a significant role as signaling molecules for the innervation of the pulp-dentin complex during formation, repair, and regeneration. Neurotrophin 4/5 found in highest amounts.
*Patel - “Impact of different imaging techniques on anatomy and stress of residents”
3D endo software and CBCT resulted in significantly less stress, better working length determination, and less voids.
**Tawil - “Periapical microsurgery: a 4D analysis of healing patterns”
After surgery healing occurred with little to no regression of the buccal cortical plate without the use of grafting materials.
**Von Arx - “A 10 year follow up study of 119 teeth treated with apical surgery and root end filling with MTA”
Teeth treated with apical surgery and MTA root end filling had 81.5% healing. Many of the lost teeth were extracted due to longitudinal root fractures.
**Verma - “Effect of different concentration of NaOH on outcome of primary RCT”
Greater healing in high concentration (5%) than low concentration (1%) but no SSD.
***Fouad - “Longterm outcomes of endodontic treatment performed with resilon/epiphany”
Resilon treated teeth 5.3 times more likely to have a periapical index of 3-4 at follow up compared to GP. Teeth with pre op lesions most likely to have lesion at follow up.
