2017 Mod10 Flashcards
define the following terms:
A. Prokaryotic cell
A cell that has no distinct, membrane-bound organelles
B. Eukaryotic cell
A cell with distinct, membrane-bound organelles
C. Pathogen
An organism that causes disease
D. Decomposers
Organisms that breakdown the dead remains of other organisms
E. Vegetative reproduction
The process by which one part of a plant can form new roots and develop into a complete plant
Name the five kingdoms the text used in the classification system
Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia
An organism is made up of several eukaryotic cells and eat only dead organisms. To which kingdom does it belong?
Kingdom Fungi
An organism is May 7 and eukaryotic cells and makes its own food. It has specialized structures that perform individual tasks. To which kingdom does it belong?
Kingdom Plantae
An organism is made up of one pro Carriott Excel and eat only dead organisms. Which kingdom does it belong?
Kingdom Monera
An organism is made up of several eukaryotic cells and makes it’s own food. It has no specialized structures. To which kingdom does it belong?
Kingdom Protista
An organism is made up of one eukaryotic cell and eat other living organisms. To which kingdom does it belong?
Kingdom Protista
In organism is made up of several eukaryotic cells and eat only living plants. To which kingdom does it belong?
Kingdom Animalia
Why can dehydrated food be stored for a long time without worry of it being contaminated by bacteria?
There is no moisture in the food for bacteria to grow on
Why did people salt meat before refrigeration was available
It made it harder for bacteria to grow
When you store food for a long time, why does covering it reduce the amount of bacteria contamination?
Because bacteria can enter something through dust particles
A member of kingdom Protista can move on it’s own. Is it part of the Protozoa or the Algae? how do you know?
Protozoa. Algae can’t move
Are there any pathogenic organisms in the kingdom Protista
Yes
Why are decomposers essential to creation?
Without decomposers dead dead material would just pile up
Are all members of Kingdom fungi made of many cells? If not, give an example of a single celled member of Kingdom fungi.
No. Yeast!
Icebergs are dangerous to shit because the visible part of an iceberg is actually very small. Most of an iceberg is underwater where it cannot be seen. How is a mushroom like an iceberg?
Most of the mushroom is under the surface.
What is the main part of emotion: the cap, and the stalk, the gills, or the mycelium
The mycelium
A cell has a cell wall and central vacuole. Is it a prokaryotic cell, a plant cell, or an animal cell?
plant cell
What is turgor pressure and what does it do for a plant?
Pressure is formed when the central vacuole expands with water pushing everything in the cell against the cell wall. It holds the plant up right
To which kingdom do people belong?
Animalia
