201.05 RCPs Flashcards
- 201.05 RCPs*
- *
Functions of RCPs
Circulate water through the Rx Vessel and to the S/Gs to transfer heat
KNOW THE FLOW PATH SG/RCP/RX VSL
Flow must be sufficient to remove adequate amounts of heat – 3853 MWth
- 201.05 RCPs*
- *
Function of Hydraulic Section of RCP
Imparts velocity / pressure to coolant
Limits heat flow to motor internals
- 201.05 RCPs*
- *
Function of Seal Section of RCP
Prevents RCS leakage
- 201.05 RCPs*
- *
Function of Motor Section of RCP
Converts electrical energy to rotational energy to spin impeller
- 201.05 RCPs*
- *
RCS flow path through RCP
Flow drawn up through impeller, out passages in diffuser to discharge

Normal Flow through RCP Seals
CVCS seal injection enters between Seal #1 and the Lower Pump Radial Bearing and splits off to flow both down into the RCS through the thermal barrier and up through Seal #1
Leakoff from Seal #1 mostly returns to CVCS at the Charging Pump suction or to the VCT
A small amount of Seal #1 leakoff flows up through Seal #2 and goes to the RCDT
Seal #3 is supplied with a small amount of flow from the RCP standpipe, which splits off to join the Seal #2 leakoff to the RCDT and flow up, where it is directed to the Normal Sump
