Q

2006/2009

Battery Master Power

The battery switch is used to disconnect electrical power to the apparatus to prevent discharge while the apparatus is not in use. Power to the Kenwood and 800 radios are also cut when the battery master switch is turned to the OFF position. The one exception to this is the MDT (Mobile Data Terminal). The MDT will continue to draw electrical current (approximately 7 to 8 amps) even though the battery master switch is turned OFF.

Q

2006/2009

Intermittent Wiper Control

The intermittent delay interval is adjusted using the intermittent wiper control. Slide the control knob all the way down for the maximum delay between wipes. Move the control knob up to decrease the delay. With the knob all the way up, the wipers operate continuously at low speed. If the wiper switch on the turn signal lever is
toward the LO position, the wipers will operate at low speed, overriding the intermittent delay feature.

Q

2006/2009

The Caterpillar, C-13, is a six-cylinder valve-in-head type engine. It has a 5.12” bore and a 6.18” stroke, with a total piston displacement of ____ cubic inches and a compression ratio of __ to 1.

A

763

17 to 1

17
Q

2006/2009

The C-13 develops its highest torque, ____-ft lbs. at ___ RPM and its rated horsepower, ____ at ____ RPM.

A

1650 ft lbs at 1800

525 at 1800

18
Q

2006/2009

C-13 Operating range is ____ to ____ RPM.

The best fuel economy is delivered between ___ – ___ RPM.

A

1200 to 2100

1200 - 1800

19
Q

2006/2009

The Caterpillar C-13 engine is equipped with an electronically controlled fuel injection system. There are no control racks or mechanical linkage to adjust. This system not only helps to improve fuel economy and vehicle performance, it also helps to reduce cold starting time and increase initial idle speed for fast engine warm-up and virtual elimination of cold smoke.

A

reference

20
Q

2006/2009

The C-13 engine has no mechanical governor. Engine horsepower, torque, idle and engine speed is contained in the internal electronics. The Electronic Foot Pedal Assembly eliminates the need for any throttle linkage.

If the engine fails to start within 15 seconds, release the starter button and allow the starting motor to cool for approximately 15 seconds before trying again. If the engine
fails to start after four attempts, an inspection should be made to determine the cause.

23
Q

2006/2009

A good indicator that all of the moving parts are getting lubrication is when the oil pressure gauge registers pressure (at least 10 psi) at idle speed. If there is no oil pressure indicated within 10 to 15 seconds, stop the engine and check the lubricating system. The pressure should not
fall below ___ psi at 1800 rpm (Caterpillar).

A

30

24
Q

2006/2009

The electronic foot pedal assembly was designed to communicate “percentage” of foot pedal travel to the engine’s electronic control module. The engine will respond accordingly to the driver’s demand.
