2000 - 2003 American LaFrance Flashcards
Lockout Cylinders 2001 (one truck) - 2009
4 hydraulic cylinders
used to lockout movement from the fifth wheel during aerial ops.
must be deployed after the outriggers have been set
Due to uneven pavement, there may be instance when the two front or two rear lockout cylinders will not make contact with the fifth wheel once fully extended. This does not reduce the capacity or limits of the aerial ladder.

2000 - 2003 Intermittent Wiper Control
The intermittent delay interval is adjusted using the intermittent wiper control. Slide the control knob all the way down for the maximum delay between wipes. Move the control knob up to decrease the delay. With the knob all the way up, the wipers operate continuously at low speed. If the wiper switch on the turn signal lever is toward the LO position, the wipers will operate at low speed, overriding the intermittent delay feature.

The Series 60 DDEC engine is equipped with an electronically controlled fuel injection system. There are no control racks or mechanical linkage to adjust. This system not only helps to improve fuel economy and vehicle performance, it also helps to reduce cold starting time and increase initial idle speed for fast engine warm-up and virtual elimination of cold smoke.

To Raise Cab (Power Assist)
- Ensure engine is off and apparatus is on a flat, level surface.
- Set parking brakes and chock wheels.
- Remove the remote cab tilt control from the storage location and insert the plug into the receptacle on the left front cab access stepwell.
- Turn the battery switch and the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Hold the switch on the cab remote tilt control in the RAISE position to lift the cab. (Releasing pressure on the switch will stop the cab from lifting). If the hydraulic motor is running but the cab will not lift, check to make sure that the pump flow control knob on the lift pump itself is turned clockwise until it stops.
- Continue holding the switch in the RAISE position until the cab has reached the full tilt position (approximately ___ degrees). The tilt strut lock will swing into place when the cab reaches full tilt position. Raise the cab only enough to allow the tilt strut lock to engage and observe that the lock is securely in place. DO NOT LOWER THE CAB ONTO THE SAFETY LOCK.
- Turn the ignition and battery switch to the OFF position.
50
To Lower Cab (Power Assist)
- Turn the battery switch and the ignition switch to the ON position.
- If necessary, raise the cab just enough to clear the tilt strut lock in order to release it.
- Pull and hold the tilt strut release handle (located on the left front cab access step well) and verify that the tilt strut has completely released.
- Pull and hold the tilt strut release handle until the tilt strut rises above the tilt cylinder. While lowering the cab observe the position of the tilt strut. Release the tilt strut
release handle when the tilt strut clears the tilt cylinder rod. - Continue holding the switch in the LOWER position until the cab has settled on its supports and continue to hold for another ____ seconds to insure that the cab locks are fully engaged.
five (5)
Manual Cab raise
- Before tilting the cab ensure that the vehicle is on a flat and level surface with the engine off.
- Set parking brakes and chock wheels.
- Insert the pump handle in the tube at the hydraulic pump located on the rear side of the tractor compartment. (The pump handle is located behind the driver’s seat).
- Make sure the hydraulic fluid control valve knob is turned in clockwise until it stops.
- Operate the hand pump and lift the cab to the full tilt position.
- Ensure the tilt strut has moved into place.
reference
To Lower Cab (Manual Procedure)
- If necessary, operate the hand pump until the cab has raised high enough to clear the tilt strut.
- Have an assistant pull and hold the tilt strut release handle while you operate the pump flow control valve and lower the cab.
- Place the pump handle on the pump release valve and turn it slowly counter-clockwise until the cab begins to lower.
- Allow the cab to slowly return to the service position.
- Turn the flow control knob clockwise until it stops.

In the event of electrical demand exceeding electrical supply, the first electrical load to be shed will be the air conditioning. This component will be turned off when electrical system voltage drops below 12.8 Volts. It is important to note that at minimum, when ALL electrical accessories are turned on and engine is running at idle (500-750 rpm), the alternator will be unable to keep up with the electrical demands placed on it thereby causing the air conditioning to be turned off. At idle with ALL electrical accessories ON, system voltage can drop well below 12.0 Volts. Even with the engine high idle engaged with all electrical accessories "ON", system voltage will vary between 12.9 to 13.1 Volts. This is only a few tenths of a volt above the "shed" voltage where the first electrical accessory is turned off. When there is a heavy demand placed on the electrical system such as occurs when idling on scene, always engage the high idle feature of the engine. This will help prevent shut down of any electrical accessories by the electrical load manager when electrical demand is high.
