2-Waves Flashcards
what are waves measured in?
hertz
hertz
number of cycles per second
Amplitude
height of a wave as measured from the highest point on the wave (peak or crest) to the lowest point on a wave (trough)
Wavelengths
length of the wave from one peak to the next
Frequency
number of waves that pass a given point in a given time period and is often expressed in terms of hertz (Hz) or cycles per second
- Longer wavelengths→ lower frequencies
- Shorter wavelengths→ higher frequencies
Visible spectrum
- portion of the larger electromagnetic spectrum that we can see
- Red = longer wavelengths
- Greens = intermediate wavelengths
- Blues and violets = short wavelengths
frequency is associated with colour
Electromagnetic spectrum
all the electromagnetic radiation that occurs in our environment
relationship of colour and amplitude?
- Amplitude of light waves is associated with ur experience of brightness or intensity of colour
- larger amplitudes = brighter
relationship of frequency and sound?
- High frequency = high pitch
- Low frequency = low pitch
relationship of amplitude and sound?
amplitude is associated with loudness (dB,decibels)
Timbre
the sound’s purity
