2. The Vine Growth Cycle Flashcards
What is required for photosynthesis? Which of these resources is out of the control of the grape grower?
- Adequate water
- Sunlight
- Warmth
- Carbon dioxide*
What is the grape grower’s aim?
The grape grower’s aim is to produce the largest possible crop of grapes that are of suitable ripeness and quality for the style of wine being produced
What is respiration? What is needed for respiration to occur?
Plants require an internal source of energy to grow . This energy is produced by respiration where sugars (from photosynthesis) and oxygen along with other compounds interact and produce energy along with water and CO2. During respiration, the energy stored by the vine is released.
Photosynthesis and respiration occur at the same time and are interdependent . In photosynthesis, energy is stored and in respiration, energy is released.
Respiration needs warmth in order to occur (as does photosynthesis)
Why are nutrients needed?
- Important for cell structure and function
- Vine growth and reproduction
